The Ghosts We Carry Book Signing

September 19 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Local Preservation Advocate and Author Steve Dills to Hold Book Signing for The Ghosts We Carry

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Local author, historian, preservation advocate, and paranormal investigator Steve Dills will hold a book signing this fall at Books, Beads & More in Mechanicsville to celebrate the release of his debut book, The Ghosts We Carry.

More than a traditional paranormal book, The Ghosts We Carry explores the connections between history, memory, philosophy, psychology, and the experiences that shape our lives. Drawing from more than two decades spent working with historic sites throughout Hanover County and Central Virginia, Dills invites readers to look beyond ghost stories and consider the people, places, and moments that continue to stay with us.

Dills is the founder and director of Transcend Paranormal, a Virginia-based organization dedicated to supporting historic preservation through education, public programming, and fundraising. Since its founding in 2010, Transcend’s work has helped raise more than $500,000 for historic sites and nonprofit organizations, supporting preservation efforts while introducing thousands of visitors to local history in engaging and meaningful ways.

In addition to his preservation work, Dills serves as Investigator and Historian for the long-running independent television series The Ghost Finders and co-hosts the YouTube series Eerie Encounters alongside fellow investigator and The Ghosts We Carry contributor Chris Vaughn. Together, the pair approach history and the paranormal with curiosity, humor, and thoughtful conversation, offering a refreshing alternative to the fear-driven style often associated with paranormal television.

A longtime advocate for historic preservation, Dills previously served as President of the Hanover Tavern Foundation and continues to serve on its Board of Directors, helping support one of Hanover County’s most treasured historic landmarks. Throughout his career, he has partnered with museums, historic homes, taverns, and preservation organizations across Virginia, encouraging people to experience history rather than simply read about it.

Outside of his preservation work, Dills is a technology professional whose interests span history, science, philosophy, and emerging technology. He is known for blending these disciplines into engaging presentations that encourage audiences to ask questions, think critically, and embrace curiosity.

“People often assume this is a book about ghosts,” Dills said. “In reality, it’s about the things we all carry with us – our memories, our losses, our wonder, and the places that change us. Whether you’ve experienced the paranormal or not, we’ve all been shaped by stories that never really leave us.”

Books will be available for purchase and signing during the event, giving readers an opportunity to meet the author, discuss the inspiration behind the book, and explore the fascinating intersection of history, preservation, philosophy, and the unexplained.

This is the perfect book for people who love Paranormal.
