DESCRIPTION:This event is a union of paranormal and preservation to raise funds to renovate the historic Heater House\, which is over 270 years old. It has rare architectural features that need to be preserved. Working with the town of Strasburg we are organizing this event for May 20-22\, 2022. Come join us for a weekend of vendors\, speakers\, and a paranormal investigation (location to be announced later). \nTickets available at: https://paravation.ticketleap.com/the-strasburg…/ \n\nEvent Rules and Regulations:\n \nVendor Rules and Restrictions\n-Location will be opened 8:30am on Saturday and 8:30am on Sunday for vendor setup. A Friday evening setup time might be available and announced later. Vendors must be set up by 9:30am on Saturday and 9:30am on Sunday. The event will be open to the public at 10:00am.\n-Vendors must supply their own tables\, chairs\, and canopies. In the case of inclement weather there is no cover provided for outdoor vendors. Event will be held rain or shine.\n-Vendors may have 2 additional people at their vendor table at no additional charge. Paranormal teams may have up to 5 people. Other purchases may be necessary (i.e. the investigation).\n-Vendors must remain for the entire duration of the day for each day. You may not pack up early unless you have an emergency. This area was witness to multiple clashes between Native Americans and the settlers from the Old World. During the War Between the States northern forces shelled Radford – then a small place called Central Depot from the ridge that overlooks the river which St Albans would be built on. After the brutal war St Albans Boys School was founded in 1892. In the early 1900’s St Albans became a treatment center for those suffering from mental issues. Barnum\, and even Edgar Allen Poe graced the halls of Hanover Tavern. During the Civil War\, both Union and Confederate troops utilized the Tavern.\n \nWith so much history packed into this building\, has every guest that checked into Hanover Tavern truly checked out? DESCRIPTION:As the Civil War waged on across Virginia\, one county in particular sat in it’s crosshairs: Hanover County. Bathed in not one\, but two major American wars\, Hanover County is home to a vast amount of history. Intertwined in it’s stories of greatness and woe lay mysteries\, hidden in dark corners of history – just out of sight from the mere passerby. However\, late at night\, bathed in the the pale light of the moon\, those who dare might just be offered a glimpse into these mysteries… \nThe only question left is….Do You Dare? \nWe’re kicking the evening off at the Beaverdam Depot. Originally built sometime between 1836 and 1840\, the Beaverdam Depot was a hot-bed of Civil War activity. The Depot changed hands or was destroyed at least three times\, with it being fully restored as it stands today in 1866. Beaverdam Depot was a strategic point for transporting soldiers and goods\, and it was here that the infamous “Grey Ghost” John Mosby was captured. \nNext\, we’re hopping in our cars and heading to a place of much strife; the North Anna Battlefield. From May 23 through May 26th\, 1864\, the Battle of North Anna raged on. The armies of Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and General Robert E. Lee engaged in a series of actions against each other\, ultimately resulting in a stalemate. The result? Out of the combined 117\,000 – 153\,000 men that engaged in war on this battlefield\, over 5\,500 were killed\, wounded\, or captured. As the troops moved out of the area\, they found themselves just days later at another familiar location….Cold Harbor. \nFinally\, we’re hitting the road once more for our final destination of the evening; the Hanover Tavern\, Historic Hanover Courthouse\, and Old Stone Jail. The earliest portion of the Tavern being built in 1791\, there was a Tavern on the property spanning back to 1733. One of only a few surviving colonial-era Taverns in the United States\, the Hanover Tavern hosted such historic figures as George Washington\, Lord Cornwallis\, Patrick Henry\, P.T. Barnum\, Marquis de Lafayette\, and more. Both Union and Confederate troops utilized the Tavern on their way to and from the battlefields. Not only will you have the opportunity to investigate Hanover Tavern\, but also the Historic Courthouse and Old Stone Jail as well – both hotbeds for paranormal activity. \nFor years\, guests of each of these locations report eerie experiences of ghost apparitions\, smells\, and unexplainable noises. For the first time ever\, we have access to investigate those claims. Are Union and Confederate soldiers still waging war at Hanover County’s North Anna Battlefield and Beaverdam Depot? 𝐼𝑡 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒-𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑦­𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑒𝑙𝑠𝑒.” From Life in the South from the commence­ment of the war by a blockaded British Subject \nSoon after the Cavalry left for war in late 1861\, Ashland became a place of refuge from the war-torn areas in the north. Civilians brought entire families to Ashland\, renting rooms in hotels and private houses to stay safe. The war was brought daily to their doorsteps\, as they listened to cannon-fire and Yankee yells from outside their very own front doors. \nOn June 1st\, 1864\, the town of Ashland became a war-zone. As the Union army advanced towards Ashland from the north\, they took up positions on the north\, east\, and south sides of the tracks\, and were placed in and around the homes along the railroad tracks. The Confederate army knew that the Union was trapped\, and moved in. The Confederate Cavalry that trained here in Ashland just 3 years prior charged back into town\, dismounted\, and attacked. Those soldiers who arrived and never left Ashland are buried right in town – over 400 fallen soldiers; their final resting place\, the Woodland Cemetery. \nYour evening begins at the Hanover Arts & Activities Center…\n…formerly known as the Ashland Baptist Church\, the very same field hospital where numerous soldiers gasped their last breath. To begin our evening\, you will be led by the Ashland Haunted History Tours on a haunting tour of downtown Ashland\, learning about the darker side of history that resides in the shadows…. \nAfter the tour\, we’ll be investigating claims of the paranormal at not one – but two locations in historic downtown Ashland…\nYou’ll have the opportunity to investigate:\nThe Hanover Arts & Activities Center\nRed Vein Escape Room\nBoth of these locations are home to a slew of haunting tales and paranormal experiences\, ranging from EVPs\, audible talking\, footsteps\, and even seeing shadow figures walking through the halls. \nThe question is…. Do You Dare?\n—————————————————————————– \nThis is a fundraising investigation!\n100% of the proceeds of this event go directly to Red Vein & the Hanover Arts & Activities Center for their continued efforts in restoration and preservation\, as well as the amazing community outreach they provide daily!\n—————————————————————————– \n𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄: \n\nYou are welcome to bring your own equipment to investigate.\nWe will break into small groups at each site to investigate. Each group will be led by an investigator with equipment to assist on the investigation.\nWe will be outside for a portion of the investigation\, so please dress accordingly.\nWe will begin the evening at the Hanover Arts & Activities Center. The Ashland Haunted History Tour is on foot and lasts approximately 1 hour. We will be outside for the entire duration of this tour. We will travel from the Hanover Arts & Activities Center to the Red Vein Escape Room on foot.\nPlease do not put on fragrances before the investigation. Smells are often reported at both locations and it will be difficult to identify if we are wearing fragrances.\nPlease do not wear loose jewelry\, baggy clothing\, etc. These often make extra sounds and noises that will make listening to and identifying EVPs difficult!\nThere will be identified spots if you need to smoke a cigarette. Please make sure you dispose of your cigarette butts accordingly.\nPlease do not plan to investigate under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We will ask you to leave the premises if so.\nWeapons of any kind are strictly forbidden.\nBring your equipment! We’ll have some that you can use within your groups\, but you are welcome to bring any equipment you have for investigating that you can carry with you. A flashlight is highly encouraged. Additionally\, if you do not have an audio recorder\, bring your phone! We’ll ask you to put it in airplane mode\, but you can still record audio onto your cellphone – a large number of people on our investigations have recorded EVPs on their phones!\nMost importantly\, have fun! This investigation is for you\, so bring your ideas and thoughts for investigating! You never know what\, or who\, you will run into\, and we value your unique ideas and suggestions for investigating these locations! We urge you to be ready to be involved in the investigation!
